Visual Wand Improvisation
The LED video was taken at Oak Cliff Aikikai in Dallas, TX after I taught a workshop intensive on leviwand techniques. I was sponsored by the company that created this wand, which is currently the world's best LED leviwand. It uses an effect called persistence of vision (POV), which is the optical illusion that occurs when visual perception of light does not cease for some time after light rays have ceased to enter the eye. An extreme example is the blotches that you see after looking at the sun for too long. Pyroterra Lighttoys harnessed this basic optical illusion to create full HD images that seem to be floating in the air as I swing the wand. They mailed me this tool to beta test it before the full release, and I gave some feedback to make it the best possible leviwand on the market.
